Poetry is awkward
I went through my writing archives about a month ago and came across a whole series of poems that I’d written. Most of the poems were written in a time where I was struggling with recent sobriety and the demons of my past. Some of the poems seem to be directed towards specific people in my past, but I can’t actually place them. So, Dear Reader, if you see yourself in my twisted words, let me know.
There was a point in my life, obviously, where the poetry dried up. Someone I care about told me that one of my poems was “weird” and then I became ashamed. I take the opinions of others to heart far more than is healthy. Like many creatives I cling to the criticism and regard the compliments with cynicism. So I have republished my poetry here, and in time, I will expand on the anthology.
